Professor David Thomson

Director of Product Development & Clinical Lead: Optometry

Professor Thomson has spent most of his professional life at City University, where he lectured in Clinical Optometry and Visual Perception before becoming Head of Department.

In the late 90s he recognised the potential of emerging computer and display technology for vision assessment and screening, and started developing software to exploit the new technology. The first programme was launched in 1992 and from these humble beginnings, his software is now used in thousands of clinics and schools worldwide. He started developing software for vision screening in schools over ten years ago and the current version reflects his years of experience in this field. He continues to lead the product development in the company while lecturing widely in the UK and overseas.

In November 2016, Professor Thomson was elected a Life Fellow of The College of Optometrists for his outstanding contribution to the profession
